MBUK RULES OK!

A WHIRLWIND HISTORY OF OUR 400 ISSUES

-

Coming just three years after the unashamed retro-fest that was our 30th anniversary, we’ve decided not to dwell on the past too much in our 400th issue. But that’s what this section’s all about, eh? During its five decades in print, MBUK has changed enormously, from early days trying to figure out what this sport was all about and how you could get down a hill without crashing, to the bonkers stunts of the ’90s (parabiking, sub-aqua shredding, riding a carnival Wall of Death, storming the beaches of Normandy!) and the laddish dirt jump, trials and freeride-obsessed ’00s, right through to the modern day where, like many of our readers, we’re a bit more grown-up – well, some of us, at least! – but have never lost that sense of fun that sets MBUK apart. While we’re paying tribute to heroes this issue, it’d be remiss of us not to mention some of those who’ve played a big part in the mag’s success, from founder Tym ‘The Viking’ Manley to the ‘faces’ of MBUK over the years – the likes of Paul Smith, Jamie Hibbard and Doddy [Andrew Dodd] – not to mention our testers, including the muchmissed Steve Worland (RIP), our regular photographers, Jo Burt and Mint Sauce, and all those grafting behind the scenes. Hats o to you all – and long live
