FOX FLOAT X & DHX REAR SHOCKS

From £569 Bump absorbers for aggro trail riders

-

These two new piggyback shocks are designed for aggressive trail riding, with a single-tube design that saves weight over the more enduro-focused, twin-tube Fox X2 and DHX2, but is said to deliver “sophisticated damping and fade-free performance”.

The Float X (left) replaces the DPX2 and has an all-new chassis and damper. Its higher-volume air spring is said to require 40psi less pressure than the DPX2 for the same sag levels, so should suit a wider range of bikes, and it also has an improved bottom-out bumper. Progressivity can be tuned using volume spacers. You get 11 clicks of low-speed compression and rebound damping adjustment, plus a two-position lockout lever. The Factory version seen here is £659; there’s also a Float X Performance Elite for £569.

Its coil-sprung counterpart, the DHX, gets the same damper and external adjustments, plus features debuted on the burlier DHX2, including an identical spring retainer, a spring scuff guard on the shock body and detents on the spring collar so you can count how many turns of preload are applied. It’s available in Factory spec only, for £629. Both shocks come in metric sizes.
