For some time there were only a few sub£100 trail lids we’d happily recommend, but more brands are now creating walletfriendly helmets that don’t scrimp on protection, and the new Altis looks like a strong contender. At its core is 100%’s equivalent to MIPS – the Smartshock Rotational System. This places 11 elastomers between the padding and the inner shell, which are designed to compress in the event of a crash and help protect your head from oblique impacts. The Altis boasts 14 generously-sized vents, and the outer shell wraps around the rim of the EPS liner for a clean finish. An indexed dial controls the retention cradle, while the adjustable peak has three distinct positions (in the highest you can stow goggles below it). The helmet comes in three sizes, with the S/M weighing a competitive 369g.
