Route summary A wonderful ride through the Chilterns, with lots of singletrac­k, which is never too hilly. Tons of fun if ridden fast, pleasant and easygoing when taken slowly.

Start/ inish Riverside car park, Wallingfor­d (postcode OX10 8EA, grid ref SU 611/895) 1

Head left on the road, then right after 50m onto a bridleway. Go right at the end on a track, under a bridge, and left on Constituti­on Hill (Ridgeway bridleway). Turn left at the main road, crossing it right, to the Ridgeway after 100m. Follow the singletrac­k over the first road, then turn right onto the second.

Take the first left on a bridleway past a farm, bearing right then turning left, uphill. Keep ahead to, and turn left at, the crossroads towards Nu eld. Make a sharp right on a gravel drive, keep ahead along this bridleway and join the doubletrac­k. Bear left past a house, descend on tarmac and make a right at the bottom on a bridleway. Climb to, and cross, the B481.

Keep ahead, over a track crossing on a bridleway. Bear right at the end and right on a minor road, then left on a bridleway after 100m. Head left on the B481 then turn right opposite the second road on the left, on a bridleway by houses. Keep left, descend and bear left at the bottom. Take the track on the right after 30m, over a rough track at the top. At the singletrac­k fork, head right. Keep ahead to the road.

Head over a drive, then a road on a gravel track, bearing left past some bollards. Cross another drive on some singletrac­k. Continue over the next two roads, then go left on the third to Cane End. Cross the crossroads and then the A4074 on a bridleway through three gates. Go right at the fork and right again at the track crossing by some houses. Keep ahead on the bridleway, down to, and over, the B4526. Climb and keep right, then turn right to an open track.

Head left on this and quickly bear right on a bridleway (white arrow), uphill. Join a track to the right, then shortly after, bear left into the trees on some singletrac­k. Keep right to cross the A4074. Bear left on a minor road beyond, pass a pub, then turn right at a T-junction. Take the first left, keep ahead/ left on a bridleway, downhill, and head left on the road at the bottom. Keep right, climb then proceed left to, and over, the A4074 on a bridleway.

Turn right at a (faint) track crossing, on Icknield Way. Cross the field, keep ahead over the roads, then join the tarmac ahead. Go left, back onto Grim’s Ditch bridleway. Make a right at the end, cross a road beyond the roundabout and head left into the trees. Keep ahead into town and then turn left to head back to the car park.
