ROOTS TO SUCCESS

-

AVOID IT

If there’s space, you can just ride around the outside of the roots. The roots on the inside of this corner are combined with deeper steps and awkward angles, so the outside line works really well. It’s much smoother, allowing me to carry more speed.

BUNNYHOP

A bunnyhop is another great way to tackle roots. If your hop technique isn’t strong, keep an eye open for little rocks or roots you could use to help propel you into the air – that’s what I did here to clear the big roots at the base of the tree. If the roots have kindly grown directly across the trail, then you’re in luck.

LOOK AHEAD

The best way to ride across roots is as close to perpendicular as you can. Make sure you’re looking further down the trail for what comes next, as this will help keep you rolling and stop you getting fixated on any one root in particular.
