STAR LETTER

PASS IT ON

-

I thought I’d write in to talk about how becoming a mother is influencing my riding and goals. In January I gave birth to my son Noah, after what was an exciting year for me racing four-cross. It isn’t that common to see women with babies in the sport, but this isn’t holding me back. The passion I have for racing has expanded since having Noah, and becoming a mother has unlocked a new level of excitement. This year I have a couple of races lined up and big plans for 2023, particularly in 4X. I’m embracing the changes with arms wide open. Trackside breastfeeding is quite surreal!

I’m amazed by the way our bodies are so resilient. Just three months since giving birth, I’ve comfortably ridden a variety of disciplines. This isn’t to say there was no struggle, because it was especially challenging stepping away from racing while pregnant. But now I’m finally riding again. My eyes are set on meeting my goals, and I’m grateful to have these experiences to share and use to connect with others. Having a baby doesn’t make us less capable of riding bikes well. It’s totally OK to have a moving goalpost.

The journey I’m now on is teaching me so much and I’m discovering bikes all over again in a new way. In 4X, I have so many friends that are like family, so it’s going to be another amazing year in racing, with others to share it with. Isabella Wagstaff, via email

Thank you for sharing your story, Isabella. It’s truly remarkable what our bodies can do, and to now have the twin motivations of motherhood and racing is a beautiful thing. Hopefully this selection of Lezyne kit should aid with your goals!
