GOODYEAR NEWTON TYRES

£60 Odub-approved rubber

-

When MBUK regular Olly Wilkins was asked to help develop Goodyear Bike’s new tyres, we doubt he realised he was letting himself in for two years of work, no fewer than 307 test samples and 11 tread revisions!

The Newton MTF front tyre (foreground and top left) and MTR rear tyre have been designed from the ground up for gravity-fuelled riding, and are available in Trail (single-ply 60tpi casing), Enduro (dual-ply 120tpi, here) and DH (dual-ply 60tpi) versions. Goodyear have worked hard to simplify things for riders, and say you simply need to choose front or rear and the discipline that matches your riding. Nice and easy!

Said to be at home in everything from loose dust to wet loam, the MTF’s large, wide-spaced tread blocks have been designed to give reliable and predictable cornering bite, while reducing clogging. The Trail version comes in a 50/60a dual compound while the Enduro and DH tyres get a grippier, better-damped 50/42/60a rubber blend.

At the back, the MTR has a more squared-off profile, for better drive and braking traction. The Trail version again uses 50/60a rubber, while the gravity models get a 40/50/60a mix, designed to be harder-wearing than the front compound.

Trail tyres get a bead-to-bead anti-puncture casing layer, while Enduro models gain a butyl layer for extra sidewall support and on the DH options this is further reinforced. All use Goodyear’s dual-angle Tubeless Complete (TC) bead design, designed to make them easier to install and to improve tubeless sealing. https://paligap.cc
