Route summary: Following the undulating, chalky ridges of the South Downs, from Winchester to Eastbourne, this huge ride is a true UK classic.

LOCATION DETAILS: The South Downs are a range of chalk hills along the South Coast of England, which form the UK’s newest National Park. They provide a large area in which to escape the city crush, with a wide range of riding, from rolling chalk tracks along the top, to shallow descents to the south and steeper ones in the north.

GETTING THERE: For many, the best way to begin this ride will be by rail. Start from Winchester station and get the train back there from Eastbourne at the other end. There are also stations along the route, if needed. For more info, call 08457 484950 or see www.nationalra­il.
