OWIA ath­letes at Mt Buller for open­ing week­end


OLYMPIC Win­ter In­sti­tute of Aus­tralia (OWIA) ath­letes Britt Cox, An­ton Grimus, Laura Peel and Danielle Scott were all on hand to celebrate the of­fi­cial open­ing of the 2015 ski sea­son at Mt Buller over the Queen’s Birth­day long week­end.

The four 2014 Olympians were on stage to as­sist Mt Buller Re­sort Man­age­ment board chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer John Hu­ber in open­ing the sea­son, as well as be­ing in­ter­viewed and sign­ing posters for the young fans in at­ten­dance.

Ski cross ath­lete and Mt Buller lo­cal,An­ton Grimus, was op­ti­mis- tic for a snowy 2015 win­ter.

“It’s great to have four lifts turn­ing so early in the sea­son,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get out there and carve up some turns on Lit­tle Buller Spur.

“The early snow­falls and snow­mak­ing con­di­tions should set all re­sorts up for a strong sea­son.”

The OWIA ath­letes will be train­ing both in Aus­tralia and over­seas over the next few months be­fore com­pet­ing in a num­ber of Ski and Snow­board Aus­tralia (SSA) Na­tional Cham­pi­onship events at var­i­ous Aus­tralian re­sorts in Au­gust and Septem­ber.
