Get in quick to ward off flu

WITH the on­slaught of this year’s flu sea­son edg­ing ever closer, those at Stan­dish Street Surgery are urg­ing the pub­lic, par­tic­u­larly those most vul­ner­a­ble to the ef­fects of in­fluenza, to or­gan­ise their vac­ci­na­tion in the near fu­ture.

A free sea­sonal in­fluenza vac­cine has been funded for peo­ple in high risk groups, in­clud­ing:

- All chil­dren aged from six months to less than five years

Stan­dish Street Surgery is a lo­cal, ac­cred­ited, fam­ily ori­ented med­i­cal prac­tice lo­cated in the heart of Myrtle­ford.

They boast mod­ern and com­put­erised fa­cil­i­ties and pride them­selves on en­cour­ag­ing con­tin­u­ing ed­u­ca­tion and de­vel­op­ment for all their staff.

All doc­tors at Stan­dish of age (this is the first year that the vac­cine has been free for this age group);

- All in­di­vid­u­als aged five years and over with med­i­cal risk con­di­tions;

- All Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Is­lander peo­ple aged 15 years and over; - Preg­nant women; and - Peo­ple aged 65 years and over.

All peo­ple who are aged over six months and are not in any of the groups above can Street keep up to date with the lat­est med­i­cal treat­ments.

Doc­tors at the surgery are also ac­tive par­tic­i­pants in train­ing stu­dents and doc­tors for gen­eral prac­tice.

Pa­tients can call the prac­tice by phone to make ap­point­ments. We have fu­ture plans for on­line ap­point­ment fa­cil­ity.

The vast range of ser­vices avail­able at the prac­tice in­cludes hear­ing tests, im- book them­selves in for the pri­vate in­fluenza vac­cine to help safe­guard them against the cur­rent strains of the flu virus.

Stan­dish Street Surgery’s Dr Si­mon Shute said it is most rec­om­mended by the health de­part­ment to time their flu vac­ci­na­tions for early May, and the clinic is now tak­ing book­ings.
