Joyful group creates moving melodies
CELEBRATING a quarter of a century in existence this year, Bright Singers will once again play an integral part in the Bright Autumn Festival.
Headed up by musical director Angela Isherwood and accompanist Jill Chalwell, the group will be performing three concerts at the Bright Community Centre during the festival.
These concerts will be held at 8pm on Wednesday, May 2 and Friday, May 4, and at 2pm on Sunday, May 6.
Ms Isherwood said those attending the concerts would be treated to a range of excellent music, including selections from popular musicals such as West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera, songs from renowned composers like Irving Berlin, spirituals and much more.
She has been involved with the group for a year, and said all involved with the group are keen and committed singers who love performing for the public.
“We’re looking forward to being part of the festival,” she said.
Bright Singers were first founded in 1993 as an Alpine Shire initiative to foster access to the arts in the region and was originally known as Bright Community Choir before changing its name.
The choir supports itself through annual subscriptions and various performances throughout the year.
Now with 15 core members, the group always performs during the Bright Autumn Festival, as well as giving two Carols concerts each Christmas.
Their rehearsals take place each Tuesday night between 7.30-9.30pm.
New members are always welcome and membership and other enquiries can be directed to Kevin and Beth Reed on (03) 57501213.
Anyone wishing to attend one of the Bright Singers’ concerts listed above can obtain tickets for $12 (children free) at Country Collectibles in Ireland Street or at the door.
Supper at the concerts is available for a gold coin donation to a local charity.
