LOCAL community foundation, Into Our Hands, has up to $100,000 available this year for community projects in the Wangaratta, Alpine and Indigo areas affected by the 2009 bushfires.
The 2018 grants round opens this Wednesday and closes on September 10, 2018.
This year, the foundation is looking to fund projects that enhance community strength, cohesiveness and wellbeing.
Foundation executive officer Sarah Thompson said the organisation remains all about community.
“We exist because locals are best placed to develop solutions to community challenges, and that’s why we invest in grass- roots initiatives that build local community capacity, resilience and sustainability,” she said.
This year’s funding is aimed towards helping with activities or commemorative events that improve community connectedness and social well-being that build community capacity for future disasters or projects that reconnect community with nature.
With the 10-year anniversary of Black Saturday approaching, this year the foundation is interested in visionary projects that have a whole-of-region impact.
The Foundation is hosting three workshops to explain the process and provide tips and support for applicants on:
Wangaratta Library at 10am,;
Bright Senior Citizens Centre at 10.30am; and
Beechworth Town Hall at 5.30pm.
To register to attend a workshop go to http://intoourhandsfoundation.com.au/grants/ and for further information go to www.intoourhandsfoundation. com.au or the Into Our Hands Foundation’s Facebook Page.
