Wine in­dus­try given chance to grow fol­low­ing more govern­ment sup­port

THE Alpine Shire’s strong wine in­dus­try will be given a chance to grow even fur­ther with the State Govern­ment last week an­nounc­ing a third round of the Wine Growth Fund.

The Wine Growth Fund aims to de­velop and sus­tain­ably grow the wine in­dus­try in Vic­to­ria by pro­vid­ing in­no­va­tive grow­ers, or­gan­i­sa­tions and projects with fund­ing to build both do­mes­tic and in­ter­na­tional mar­kets.

The pro­gram sup­ports ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing mar­ket­ing, ex­port­ing and tourism and busi­ness de­vel­op­ment.

The guide­lines have been al­tered so in­fra­struc­ture projects that at­tract sig­nif­i­cant in­vest­ment and cre­ate new jobs are el­i­gi­ble for grants up to $100,000.

Sim­i­lar projects have al­ready cre­ated new jobs in the wine in­dus­try, gen­er­ated an in­crease in visi­ta­tion to Vic­to­ria’s winer­ies, and in- creased the sales and ex­ports of Vic­to­rian wines.

The ini­tia­tive adds on to the ex­ist­ing Aus­tralian Govern­ment Wine Tourism and Cel­lar Door Grant pro­gram where wine pro­duc­ers are el­i­gi­ble for up to $100,000 an­nu­ally to op­ti­mise vis­i­tors’ ex­pe­ri­ence at their cel­lar doors and to strengthen wine and tourism sec­tors.

Tourism Re­search Aus­tralia fig­ures in­di­cated that wine re­lated tourism had in­creased by 12.5 per­cent since 201415.

Ap­pli­ca­tions are open to busi­nesses or or­gan­i­sa­tions from all wine re­gions in Vic­to­ria di­rectly in­volved in the wine in­dus­try, in­clud­ing the grow­ing, mak­ing and mar­ket­ing of wine.
