Dr Haines confirms she will contest for re-election

INDI independent MP Helen Haines has confirmed to North East Media that she will contest the next election, hoping to win a second term in office.

“My first two years in this job have shown me that government just doesn’t get what life is like in regional Victoria,” she said.

“Just look at the devastating border closures, the dire need for mental health support in our region and now the patchy vaccine rollout across the electorate.

“As an Independent I know the issues on the ground and I work every day for the people I represent.

“I work for Indi, not for a major political party.

“That means I can fight for our region without fear or favour, and make sure we get a fair deal on decent services like rail and roads, telecommunications and healthcare.

“It means I can call out corruption and put forward policies that bring prosperity, jobs and opportunities for our region.”

Partly due to the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccinations across the nation and other factors, the election is highly likely to be held in 2022, even though the window is between August this year and May next year.
