Extreme end to summer bowls

THE last Tuesday evening in March saw the ninth and final round of the Bendigo Bank barefoot bowls summer competitio­n.

Up to 20 teams competed for the honour of winning the John Sloan Memorial Shield, with the winning team ‘X-tremle unorganize­d’ comprising Scott Cooper, Craig Power and David Frecklingt­on at nine wins.

A close second went to ‘Huskies’ Peter Antonella, Stef Antonella and Michael Piazza with seven wins, one draw and one loss.

Before Christmas, due to green renovation­s, 19 teams battled to win the shield in the spring competitio­n.

Winners for the second consecutiv­e year was ‘Smokers’ Peter James, Alan Hebeale and Denis Piazza with an undefeated six wins and close second was ‘Extreemle Unorganize­d’ with five wins and one loss.

Barefoot bowls organiser Col Byrne thanked all the helpers on each Tuesday night, for creating such an enjoyable successful evening for aspiring bowlers.
