Bombers grounded by Chiltern

- By NATHAN DE VRIES

DEDERANG/MOUNT BEAUTY will be wondering what happened after a nine point margin at half time was blown out to a 57-point loss at the hands of Chiltern on Saturday.

The Bombers were shot down 6.10 (46) to 15.13 (103) at Mount Beauty.

An exceptionally close first quarter ended with the Bombers well in the fight just one point behind the Swans; the contest remained tight through the second period, with Dederang/Mount Beauty entering the long break 4.4 to Chiltern’s 5.7.

The Swans spread their wings in the third quarter by slotting four goals to push out the lead to 30 points; the Bombers unable to convert on any scoring opportunities in a meaningful way, only adding four behinds to their tally.

The final blow coming in the final quarter, with the Bombers unable to compete with Chiltern’s numerous scoring opportunities.

Michael Sims, Sam Creamer, Elliot Powell and Josh Kable all turned in great performances for the Bombers, with Powell and Kable kicking one goal apiece.

The Bombers’ reserves side also tasted defeat, going down 4.5 (29) to 12.12 (84); Patrick and Isaac Sullivan kicked one goal each, while Joshua Goznik was best on ground for Dederang/Mount Beauty.

The Bombers fly to Wodonga’s Martin Park this weekend to tackle the Saints, who went down by seven points against Wagunyah in their match last weekend.
