Hawks fly to fourth

Nar­ro­gin sit a game clear in fourth spot on the Up­per Great South­ern Foot­ball League after a tight win over Wick­epin by 13 points.

The Hawks sit on 12 points from five matches, a game clear of Wick­epin in fifth, and a game be­hind Bod­ding­ton and Wil­liams in sec­ond and third re­spec­tively.

In wet and windy con­di­tions, the Hawks burst out of the gate kick­ing 5.1 to 1.1 in the first term.

In the re­main­ing fi­nal three quar­ters, just five goals were kicked by both sides.

Wick­epin bounced back with three goals to one in the third term with Nar­ro­gin in­ac­cu­rate in front of goal.

The away team kicked the only goal in the fi­nal term but could not re­duce the mar­gin enough.

Matthew Abra­ham booted three goals for the Hawks tak­ing his sea­sonal to­tal to nine while Ryan Fleay, Ni­cholas Miller, Ralph Kick­ett and Christo­pher Wil­liams each slot­ted a ma­jor.

Katan­ning have ex­tended their lead at the top of the Up­per Great South­ern Foot­ball League with a thump­ing win over Wil­liams ex­tend­ing their per­cent­age to 526 per cent.

The Wan­der­ers have five wins from five games to start the sea­son post­ing a 17.18 (120) to 5.2.(32) away­win over third-placed Wil­liams on Sun­day.

Katan­ning sit a game clear and on a mas­sive per­cent­age at the top of the lad­der.

Josh Bootsma and Lau­rence Col­lard booted four goals each while for­mer Hawthorn player Kade Ste­wart kicked three.

Billy Col­lier, Braden Crosby and Ty­rone Roe each booted two goals.

Katan­ning dom­i­nated from the open­ing term boot­ing nine first half-goals.

In other matches, Brook­ton-Pin­gelly won a low-scor­ing match against Wa­gin 4.10 (34) to 3.11 (29).

Bod­ding­ton moved into sec­ond with four wins for the sea­son after ac­count­ing for Kuk­erin-Dum­b­leyung 10.11 (71) at home.
