Sweeney, Quar­ter­maine lay foun­da­tions for big to­tal

Towns as­serted their dom­i­nance in Cuballing on Satur­day, record­ing their first win of the season and im­press­ing with both bat and ball in the UGSCA.

Per­rin Quar­ter­maine and Ben Woodruff (27 runs) started strongly at the crease for the vis­i­tors, send­ing Towns to 81 runs with­out loss.

After mak­ing 51, Quar­ter­maine was dis­missed at the end of the 21st over by Cuballing’s John Eckersley.

First drop Ni­cholas Cor­ner fell at the end of the fol­low­ing over for a duck — lbw to Joe Dowl­ing.

Next in was Liam Sweeney, who went on to make 78 and saw out the in­nings with Daniel Rod­er­ick (17) to post 5-207 for Towns.

Blair For­rest recorded 2-20 off six overs for Cuballing.

Cuballing bats­men couldn’t find their rhythm and were bowled out for 109 off 34 overs — los­ing their first wicket with­out a run on the board. Grady Fran­cis (run-out on 38) and Dowl­ing (30) were the home side’s largest con­trib­u­tors — while Rod­er­ick took five wick­ets for Towns.
