DATE NIGHT!

Are the MKR pair really #justfriends?

- By Holly Richards

As they giggle together and throw popcorn around the room, there is no sight of first date nerves for David and Betty.

The MKR dynamic duo invited New Idea along for their night of romance to test once and for all if they really are #justfriends – and the results were... interesting!

‘People always think we’re a couple,’ David, 32, admits, laughing. ‘We’re together most of the time. When we were about to start the show, we were hanging out a lot and cooking together a lot. People assumed because I was cooking her dinner all the time, we were dating each other in secret!’

The Sydney friends say they chose dinner and a movie for their first date, since that’s what they love doing together.

‘We love movies and we love eating dinner,’ Betty, 27, laughs.

‘I actually eat all the popcorn. David’s like: “Oh my God, you’re eating all the popcorn!”’

David adds: ‘Betty is a surprise – she’s not a dainty girl. She might look it, but if we were to go out on a date, she’d probably eat more than me!’

As for scoring their date, the vote is unanimous.

‘It’s definitely a 10 out of 10 for me,’ Betty exclaims.

David agrees: ‘Oh, me too!’

Unfortunately though, the MKR contestants have decided to remain mates for now.

‘In our culture, it’s very common to have a surrogate brother or sister because a lot of us don’t have any siblings,’ David explains.

‘I don’t have a sister and Betty doesn’t have a brother. We look out for each other like a brother and sister do. I think anyone would be lucky to date Betty.’

Always on the lookout, Betty also sings David’s praises.

‘David is a catch,’ she says, before adding: ‘A woman would definitely be lucky to have him. He cooks the best food ever, I mean come on!’
