Pray for Lenny Belardo
THIS UNCONVENTIONAL POPE IS ABOUT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING
THE YOUNG POPE WEDNESDAY, 10.25PM, SBS
If you love a good dramatic series to get your teeth into, The Young Pope could be your new binge-watch show – but be warned, it’s addictive!
As the youngest Pope in history, and the first American, Lenny Belardo’s contradictory and controversial ideas about his faith challenges the Catholic Church, causing a stir among his followers.
As Lenny (played by Jude Law) begins his reign, he is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican stewards, instead calling on a nun from his past to come and serve as his personal secretary.
However, unable to convince him to do what is expected of him, Sister Mary (Diane Keaton) is forced to watch on as Lenny refuses to show any interest in his people.
But the more we learn about Lenny, we begin to uncover a tragic past event that has tormented his relationship with his faith, shaping his choices as a leader.
This 10-part international collaboration was created and directed by Italian film director and screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino, who also won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for The Great Beauty in 2014. Don’t miss it!
