When three of Hollywood’s acting royalty team up, you know good times are ahead. And it doesn’t get any better than Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin!

Playing retirees who rob a bank, Albert (played by Alan, aged 83), Joe (Michael, 84) and Willie (Morgan, 79), their latest film Going In Style is not only a movie the whole family can enjoy, it proves age really is just a number. The three megastars tell New Idea all about their

experience on set...

Why did you want to be a part of Going In Style? MORGAN FREEMAN: I wanted to work with Michael Caine again, and with Alan Arkin. So if they were in it, I had to be there too! MICHAEL CAINE: I thought the same thing! If Morgan and Alan were in it, well... we couldn’t all be wrong. ALAN ARKIN: It was more than a movie about three guys robbing a bank. It has that – and a lot more – going for it. What is the film about? MORGAN: It’s about taking back what’s yours. ALAN: But without being greedy about it! MICHAEL: It’s also a very funny film about desperation. And we all know what that is like... Besides the laughs, what does the film say about life? MICHAEL: Going In Style is more than a comedy – it is touching. You may even shed a tear or two. I like that, because real life isn’t just funny, sad, terrible or dangerous, but all of those things at the same time. Were there fun times on set? ALAN: I remember walking past Michael and Morgan, who were dozing off in their chairs on set. But when they heard the director yell ‘Action!’, they became like two bombs going off simultaneously! There was no transition. They went from snoring to being 120 per cent ready. What can you say about Zach Braff, the director of the film? MORGAN: Precisely that he is young and talented. MICHAEL: I sent him an email when we finished the movie, in which I said: ‘I had an idea that you would be good, but what I did not know is that you would be great!’ MORGAN: Yes, he was. And he was funny and easy to work with. ALAN: And if you ask him nicely,

What’s a bank heist between friends? Going In Style is packed with legends – and laughs!

he’ll get you a cup of tea. How was the experience of shooting in New York? MICHAEL: For me, it was special because my wife’s family lives in Queens, so I got to see them. Who is this film for? MICHAEL: You can take the kids or your grandparents. Anybody can enjoy Going In Style. NI
