Following a trip to Mexico last week to celebrate her birthday, Jennifer Aniston, 48, and faithful pal Courteney Cox, 52, have been engaged in a sneaky battle to see who could get into the best shape... and the tiniest bikini!
The former Friends stars are said to have worked out and dieted for weeks before getting on the plane. It paid off, with both women looking incredible, but that didn’t stop the former co-stars from trying to outexercise and out-diet each other.
‘The gloves were off knowing they’d be side by side in those cabanas,’ a close insider spills.
‘Courteney hit the Power Plate and was a regular at [celeb trainer] Tracy Anderson’s gym.

She’s really into cardio workouts, plays tennis every weekend and loves martial arts and surfing.
‘Jen’s routine is similar. Every day she takes the dogs for a run, then works out on the elliptical machine. She also quit carbs and filled up on nuts and berries.’
Meanwhile, Courteney has revealed how she saved best friend Jen from another heartbreaking divorce, playing ‘marriage counsellor’ during their recent trip to Mexico.
The Friends favourite booked Jen’s favourite five-star luxury Los Cabos villa for a last-minute getaway to celebrate her 48th birthday in a desperate attempt to mend her relationship with husband Justin Theroux, 45.
The A-list couple had been on the verge of splitting up after The Leftovers star was spotted flirting with actress Naomi Watts, with numerous sources stating they were ‘all over each other’.
However, Courteney was determined not to let them throw away their marriage over one mistake, convincing the pair to go on a ‘make or break’ holiday as a last-ditch effort to end the growing tension.
‘Courteney freaked out when she saw what was going on and immediately booked a trip for all of them to go to their favourite resort in Los Cabos in the hope it would put the spark back in Jen and Justin’s marriage,’ a close friend tells New Idea.
‘It’ll break her heart if they split up. She is furious with Justin for canoodling with Naomi – and she let him know in no uncertain terms. He looked like a scolded schoolboy by the time she was done with him.
‘Courteney has no doubt that Jen and Justin love each other, but some days they act like they are still single and seem content to lead separate lives. But Courteney says that’s no way to have a successful marriage – and she’ll be keeping a close eye on them from now on to make sure they are keeping the romance alive in their relationship.’
Sources say Courteney went the extra mile to put the spark back into Jen and Justin’s marriage after their turmoil, planning romantic surprises during their stay at the villa.
‘She arranged for their suite to be filled with rose petals, candles, sexy lingerie and other items from Frederick’s of Hollywood,’ the insider reveals.
‘Then she sent over a bottle of Champagne. She’s worried the passion has gone out of their marriage – she says they need to spice things up a bit.
‘Courteney also booked them in for a couples’ massage to get them feeling relaxed and in the mood for love.’
And her plans certainly seem to be working, as Jen and Justin looked happier than they have for ages as they relaxed with Courteney and her rocker beau Johnny Mcdaid, 40.
‘Courteney and Johnny are getting married later this year and she wants Jen and Justin to be there front and centre as a couple when they exchange vows,’ says the source. NI
