ROHAN NICHOL ‘HOW I STAY FIT’

-

Rohan Nichol reckons he’s landed a dream role, because his character Ben Astoni is the type of guy he’d hang out with on weekends.

‘He’s a good guy, he’s a guy I’d like to have a beer with!’ Rohan says, laughing. ‘I like the fact that Ben is very loyal and he’s a lover. He’s very in love with his wife.’

Staying fit for his role, the 41-year-old explains, is all about balance.

‘It’s good to keep yourself in shape. It’s something I’ve tried to keep an eye on over the years, and now I’m in my 40s, it becomes more important than ever,’ Rohan says.

‘There is a greater incentive, when you have a scene on the beach, to really pay close attention to what you’re doing. But Ben doesn’t have to look like a superhero, he just needs to be like me – a guy who stays in shape, but enjoys a beer on the weekend.’

Gushing about his on-screen wife Kestie Morassi, he reveals: ‘She’s a beautiful lady and a fine, fine actor.’

Playing a dad to teenage daughters, Rohan has picked up tips if he ever becomes a dad in real life.

‘I’ve learnt sometimes it’s best to listen and let young people talk,’ Rohan admits. ‘Very often I tend to just want to fix something immediately, rather than actually hear somebody. I think it’s very important with teenagers that they’re heard.’ To top it off, his fans love Ben! ‘People are always so happy to see me,’ says Rohan. ‘You do your work but don’t know how it’s being received until you get out there, and it’s like: “Wow! We’re reaching a lot of people!”’
