I DRANK A BOTTLE OF WINE A NIGHT

-

After a prolonged bout of family heartbreak, mum-ofthree Kylie Spry found herself taking solace in the bottom of a bottle.

Her teenage stepson struggled to cope after his best friend tragically took his own life. Then Kylie’s beloved father passed away suddenly.

‘We were having a very difficult and emotional time in our family,’ the 38-year-old tells New Idea.

Kylie didn’t have time to exercise, so to help her relax and ‘take her mind off things’, she would pour herself a glass of champagne.

But one glass became two, and the rest soon added up.

‘I probably went through a bottle of champagne a night at my worst,’ Kylie, who was also a secret eater, admits.

‘I would eat things when no one was around. Chips, lollies, creamy pastas, any kind of pasta really. I felt ashamed because I knew I shouldn’t be eating it.’

The Queensland mum’s unhealthy lifestyle meant her weight crept up to 95kg.

‘I hated having to go shopping for clothes if I needed to, for a special event or something. I hated it because I couldn’t just go and walk into a store, try something on and it would look nice. I just felt disgusting in every possible way.

‘At that time, I probably wasn’t really enjoying anything. I would struggle walking up a hill or the stairs. I would get puffed within 10 seconds.’

But at the beginning of this year, Kylie vowed to make a change. Overhauling her lifestyle, she joined The Healthy Mummy, started bootcamp, and limited the bubbles to special occasions only.

‘I wanted to be around for my kids, I was worried I would end up with all sorts of health issues, there are lots that run on both sides of my family – blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer.’

Being organised and having lots of delicious, healthy meals to choose from has been a winning formula for Kylie – who has slimmed down to 67kg in just eight months.

‘I like to have that meal plan there and the shopping list so I’m organised for the week. I don’t need to think about it again, it’s done,’ she says.

Kylie, who trains up to eight times a week, is thrilled she has now lost 28kg.

‘I’ve got so much more energy and I can fit into a size 10 pair of jeans – and I’ve never, ever, been able to fit into a size 10 in my life!

‘My kids tell me I look so fit and I’m super excited for summer this year. My goal was to jump off our boat and go swimming with my kids, and I will definitely be doing that this summer.

‘I’m a healthier and happier mum now!‘
