In a wedding bombshell no-one saw coming, Delta Goodrem has revealed plans to wed her new rock ’n’ roll lover Matthew Copley after just six weeks of dating.
Close friends of the adored Aussie singer tell New Idea that the lovebirds want to walk down the aisle ‘as soon as possible’, after deciding to take their whirlwind romance to the next level.
It’s believed Delta is ‘sick of waiting for her happily ever after’ and has jumped at Matthew’s suggestion that they marry. They’re now said to be planning a small, intimate wedding for close friends and family in country Victoria – possibly at a five-star winery.
But while details are still coming to light, one thing is for sure: this wedding is going to happen sooner rather than later.
‘Matthew and Delta may have only been dating for a couple of months, but she knows he’s The One,’ says a source close to The Voice star. ‘She feels such a special, unique connection to him – it’s something she’s never felt before.
‘And while she’s had niggling doubts about previous boyfriends throughout her life, Delta has had none of it with Matthew.
‘When he told her he felt the same and wanted to get married, it was like a fairtytale come true for Delta. She’s sick of waiting for her happily ever after – she wants to get married, have a family and she wants it now.
‘None of us would be surprised if she gets married within the next few months. She’s always said that she’d
love a simple wedding in the country, with just family and friends. There are a lot of beautiful wineries around the Yarra Valley, which would be perfect for her and Matthew.
‘We expect her to do it before The Voice goes to air and her life goes really crazy again. This is a really exciting time for her.’
Delta and her guitarist lover – who’s performed with One Direction and The Weeknd – first went public with their romance after Christmas, packing on the PDA during a romantic trip to Hawaii. It’s believed Delta fell for the sexy long-haired rock star after he joined her Wings Of The Wild tour late last year, and their romance has gone from strength to strength ever since.
‘We haven’t seen Matthew this happy in a long time,’ says a friend of the rocker. ‘He keeps saying that Delta is The One.’
The fairytale ending has been a long time coming for the 33year-old Innocent Eyes singer, who’s suffered through a string of broken romances. She’s been most recently linked to close friend Hugh Sheridan, who has spoken at length about his deep love for Delta. But their relationship fizzled after the Packed To The Rafters star decided they were ‘better off as friends’.
Prior to that, Delta had messy break-ups with tennis bad boy Mark Philippoussis and love rat singer Brian Mcfadden, but it was her on-off romance with her Voice co-star Seal that really left Delta heartbroken.
‘At the time, she thought Seal was The One, but now she’s counting her lucky stars that things didn’t work out because she’s so happy with Matthew,’ says an insider. ‘Better things are to come for her.’
And with plans afoot for a secret surprise wedding, there’s no denying that. The singer has also been open about her desire to have a baby, which will surely be on the cards in 2018 for her and Matthew.
