It’s double joy for Margot
AN OSCAR AND A BABY WILL MAKE 2018 THE BEST YEAR EVER FOR THE AUSSIE ACTRESS
With an Oscar and a baby in her sights, 2018 is shaping up to be Margot Robbie’s best year yet!
Having already infiltrated Hollywood to become a bona fide A-lister, the Aussie star’s amazing run has turned into a modern-day fairytale with news of her first Oscar nomination.
Margot’s younger brother Cameron recorded the moment his sister first heard the news while she was partying with family and friends following the I, Tonya premiere in Sydney. Clearly shocked and overjoyed, the beaming actress raised her wine glass in celebration.
‘There’s nothing I could say that articulates how proud I am of this one #whatamoment #academyawardnomaninee!’ posted Cameron of the news.
And while she may not be known for being a wild party girl, the 27-year-old clearly got swept up in the excitement as she drank and partied the night away in what became a blow-out bash for the superstar and her nearest and dearest.
‘For Margot to receive the news while she was back in Australia and surrounded by some of her favourite people was just the cherry on top,’ says an insider.
‘As soon as she received confirmation of the Oscar nomination, the party definitely kicked up a notch!’
While Margot’s career trajectory may appear to be that of an overnight success, the actress reveals that every step on her journey has been meticulously mapped out.
‘I plan everything like crazy,’ she says, speaking of her tactics to tackle Hollywood. ‘Like: “When do I move? What steps do I need to have taken before making the move to America? What steps do I need to have
taken before signing up with an agency? What steps do I need to have taken before doing this?”’
And it appears Margot’s equally as organised with her personal life, with sources revealing the star and her husband Tom Ackerley, 28, are set to make 2018 the year they start their family!
‘Margot may be really driven, but she’s always made it very clear that family comes first,’ says an insider. ‘She has always wanted to be a mum and doesn’t believe that she has to put her career on hold to make it work.’
Recently revealing that she wants to take a step back from acting to try her hand at directing – like mum-of-six Angelina Jolie – Margot is also plotting ways to reign in her nomadic lifestyle before becoming pregnant.
Indeed, having previously made a promise to her mum Sarine that her ‘kids will be [raised] in Australia’, the Gold Coast beauty is already putting plans in place to bring her career Down Under so she can be on home soil when she welcomes her first child.
‘Next year’s goal is to be filming something back home in Australia. That’s our goal,’ she revealed last year. ‘We have got a lot of good things in development, amazing Aussie writers and Aussie directors, and that’s what I am most excited about for 2018: coming home.’
And while Margot says her English husband Tom ‘loves Australia’ and is fully on board with plans to raise a family here, one person who will be extra excited about the baby news is mum, Sarine, who raised Margot and her three brothers by herself after Margot’s dad walked out of their Gold Coast home. The star says: ‘I truly don’t know how [Mum] did it.’
Sharing a very close bond with her mother, the first thing Margot did when she hit the big time was to pay off her mum’s mortgage, but the gift of another grandchild will no doubt be the most special gift the star will ever be able to give her.
‘I love having my kids home – I love having them around,’ says Sarine. ‘I didn’t know [Margot] would go and live overseas all the time... and I think: “Margot will have children one day and they’ll be who knows where?”’
But with the Aussie actress determined to raise her kids Down Under while maintaining a Hollywood career just like her compatriot Chris Hemsworth, it sounds like Margot and her family will have a lot to celebrate this year, Oscar or no Oscar.
‘I am immensely proud of her. She is a fine young woman and she is directly focused and she sets goals and achieves them,’ says Sarine. ‘I’m just so proud – we all are.’
‘SHE HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A MUM AND DOESN’T BELIEVE SHE HAS TO PUT HER CAREER ON HOLD’
