If it seems like your child has a limited vocabulary, here are five ways you can expand their language: • Create a word of the day. Describe what it means and get the whole family to use it in conversation. • Talk. The more you chat, the more words they’ll take in. • Read together – even when they can read themselves. Extending them with more difficult books will also increase their vocabulary. • Play word games, such as Scrabble and Boggle. • Encourage them to write – about anything they want. And don’t mark it. Just let them enjoy the process.
