SHARNI VINSON ‘IT FELT LIKE SOMETHING WAS MISSING’

- Step Up

It’s the role that made her a household name, but Sharni Vinson reveals she had to make a huge sacrifice to play Cassie Turner on Home And Away. A third-generation dancer, the Sydney native had been dancing since she was a baby. ‘From the age of three, I knew that I wanted to be a performer,’ she tells New Idea. However, Home And Away’s gruelling filming schedule meant that she was forced to put her passion for dance on hold. ‘It felt like something was missing from my life,’ Sharni admits. Relocating to Hollywood after her stint on the show ended in 2008, Sharni’s New Year’s resolution that year was to get back into dancing. It proved to be serendipitous, as a few months later an audition came up for the female lead in 3D, the third instalment in the dance film franchise.

‘I knew that opportunity was fate and that role was meant for me, at that point in time,’ she says.

Nearly 10 years on, Sharni has reignited her passion for dance once again – but this time, as a judge on Dance Boss.

The 35-year-old is temporarily back on Australian soil to sit alongside Timomatic and Adam Garcia on the panel.

‘It was an absolute dream team, we had so much fun,’ Sharni says of working with her fellow judges.

‘Our love of dance really brought us together.’

Sharni’s next role is set to be a more physically demanding one, playing a superhero in a yet-to-be-named Netflix show.

‘My character is called The Speed and she’s the fastest woman on earth!’ Sharni explains to New Idea.

The actress reveals she does all her own stunts on the show, going through a rigorous training program to get her in fighting shape.

She also confesses she was put out of action for weeks after breaking her right hand on set. ‘But at least I did it punching Batman, which is probably the coolest way to break your hand,’ she laughs.
