ROSE BYRNE REVEALS ‘IT’S PRETTY HECTIC’
THE AUSSIE STAR ADMITS SHE HAS TROUBLE KEEPING UP WITH HER YOUNG FAMILY AND A NEW MOVIE
With two small children under the age of three, actress Rose Byrne is finding life more of a juggle than it used to be.
In a recent interview with US talk show Live With Kelly And Ryan, the 39-year-old actress told hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest how life has changed now she has sons Rocco, two, and Rafa, nine months, with actor Bobby Cannavale.
‘It’s pretty hectic. It’s funny that the little guy is a lot more aggressive than the big guy,’ the Peter Rabbit actress says of her boys, telling how little Rafa pulls his big brother’s hair.
She went on to explain that her older son has had trouble adjusting to the new member of the family. ‘Rocco, he didn’t quite get having the brother, and he would wake up in the morning and go, “No Rafa, no Rafa.”’ Having two kids under three certainly keeps her on her toes: ‘Anything dangerous they’ll immediately go towards,’ she added.
The actress is promoting her new film, Juliet, Naked, in which she stars with Before Sunrise actor Ethan Hawke, and her Bridesmaids co-star Chris O’dowd. In the movie, based on the novel by Nick Hornby, Rose plays Annie, who ends up in a love triangle with her no-hoper boyfriend, Duncan (played by Chris), and the one-time rock star he is obsessed with, Tucker (Ethan, who also happens to be real-life friends with Rose’s partner, Bobby).
‘I had read the book, and then, when the film started to float around, I immediately put my hand up,’ Rose told Collider.
‘It’s an unlikely love story. It’s very witty and very entertaining. There’s a tone that Nick Hornby captures that is quintessential, and I think it’s really hard to do. I’ve been a fan.’ The Sydneyborn actress, who became internationally famous when she starred with Brad Pitt in Troy, sings the praises of her boys’ dad, Bobby, 48, who she has been dating since 2012.
‘He is one of a kind, man! He’s endlessly interesting and entertaining. When something is special, it’s hard to articulate it, but I feel really lucky,’ she told Instyle in 2017 of the Third Watch actor, who she has co-starred with many times, including in the 2015 comedy, Spy.
Having previously dated Australian actor Brendan Cowell, Rose may be set to change her marital status soon. ‘He’s practically my husband, so calling him that is easier,’ she told the UK’S Evening Standard magazine in 2017 about Bobby. ‘The formality isn’t a draw for me, but we’ll do it one day. Once you have children, I just think, why not?’
As part of the interview Rose raised the question of why same-sex marriage wasn’t legal in Australia. Now that barrier has been lifted for others, perhaps wedding bells could be ringing any day for this famous loved-up couple.
