PLAN THE PERFECT PARTY FOR YOUR PET ON A BUDG ET

CELEBRATING YOUR FURRY FRIEND’S BIRTHDAY DOESN’T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK

-

In Australia, there has been an increasing rise in the popularity of pet parties. And while we all want to celebrate our furry friends’ birthdays, the cost of dog-safe cakes and decorations can easily see the costs skyrocket.

Here, Dr Cherlene Lee from My Vet Animal Hospital gives her top tips on throwing the perfect pet party – without forking out the big bucks.

THE GUEST LIST Keep it intimate to ensure no incidents on the day. Only invite dogs your pooch has interacted with before, so you know they will get along.

If children are coming, make sure they’re comfortable with animals so they won’t get frightened or frighten the dogs. Set up a fenced-off area if possible to keep dogs and kids separate to avoid any issues. It can also serve as a time-out zone if the dogs need it.

THE LOCATION Choose a free venue such as a park or your own backyard to give your pooches lots of area to run around.

THE FOOD Make your own human and pet-friendly food. Doublecheck ingredients to make sure there are no nasties such as cream cheese or chocolate which would disagree with your furbaby – check with your vet if you are unsure.

THE ACTIVITIES Create your own DIY games such as a treat-filled scavenger hunt or animalfriendly musical statues to get pet parents involved too!

THE BIRTHDAY OUTFIT If you love to dress up your pet, make sure you put them in a costume they’re comfortable with. Opt for a cute hat or funky collar on a hot day rather than a full costume to keep them cool. Look out for any signs of distress and remove the costume immediately if your pet looks uncomfortable.
