THOMAS JR’S PLEA TO PALACE

-

Thomas Markle Jr has shown New Idea emails sent from his lawyer to Kensington Palace begging them to help him with press intrusion. On Nov. 2, 2017, just weeks before Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement was announced, Thomas emailed his attorney, Chris Cauble, asking for advice on what to do when approached by the media.

Chris, a partner in a small Grants Pass, Oregon, law firm, suggests Thomas contact the palace directly, adding that Meghan should “empathise with you” and offer advice, seemingly referencing an earlier email sent to them by the royal household in which Meghan refers to her half-brother as a “distant” family member.

In an email sent later that day to Naomi Smith, secretary to the princes’ communications secretary, with the subject matter “Tabloid issues-tom Markle”, the lawyer makes a further plea for the palace’s support.

Chris writes, “My client is not a celebrity and he did not ask for this publicity. He believes that the palace should take some action to protect him and his significant other.”

Thomas explains to New Idea, “I contacted them because I didn’t know how to deal with all the attention we were getting when it all went public … I wasn’t expecting or asking for money, just some advice and support on what to do.” He adds that being called “distant family” by Meghan “was hurtful”.
