Revealing that she and her husband John have both struggled with their weight since their teens, Elsa Tesi, 35, wants to ditch all the “ridiculous fad diets” and weight-loss pills she’s tried throughout the years.

Instead, she wants to set out on a successful path to health for good. “I started gaining weight when I hit puberty, and after having kids it really spiralled out of control,” Elsa reveals.

Life became hectic after having two children just 18 months apart, and Elsa admits to often over-indulging at family gatherings.

After years of dabbling in quick-fixes Elsa – currently 135kg – jumped at the chance to join the New Idea 6-Week Family Health Challenge to finally make a long-term healthy lifestyle change.

“John suffered a back injury at work in 2010, leaving him bedridden for six weeks. His weight ballooned and he went through a bad period of depression,” Elsa reveals. He eventually pulled himself out of the rut, losing weight, only to suffer yet another workplace injury in 2017.

Once again immobile, he was plagued with weight struggles. Now he’s on his feet again but is yet to shift any weight. John – currently weighing 152kg – is eager to join Elsa on our health challenge.

“We both want to lose weight and gain happiness again,” Elsa says. “Our weight is crushing our confidence and motivation.” They also want to be healthy role models for their children. “We want to teach our kids that there are tasty, healthy food options and encourage them to get outdoors and be active,” Elsa adds.

The four of them are excited to kick off this journey together, which Elsa has no doubt will also be a wonderful family bonding experience.

“I believe our failures in the past have been because we haven’t worked together as a family,” says Elsa.
