What really happened to screen icon Marilyn Monroe?

EXPLOSIVE NEW DETAILS ARE SET TO BE REVEALED IN ONE OF HOLLYWOOD’S ALL-TIME UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

-

Marilyn Monroe was the brightest star in Hollywood during the 1950s and early ’60s. But everything changed on August 5, 1962, when the blonde bombshell was found dead in the bedroom of her Los Angeles home.

As her legions of fans mourned, it came to light that the glamorous 36-year-old actress had a history of substance abuse and mental health issues.

Initially, her death was deemed a suicide. But in subsequent years, myriad conspiracy theories suggested the true cause was murder…

FINAL DAYS

Marilyn Monroe spent her final hours in her Brentwood home in Los Angeles.

At that point, the actress had hit a rough patch. She had developed a reputation for being difficult to work with and had been fired from her last film, Something’s Got to Give.

In the wee hours of the morning, Marilyn’s housekeeper Eunice Murray awoke with an ominous feeling. After calling out to the actress, who was locked in her bedroom, she phoned Marilyn’s psychiatrist, Dr Ralph Greenson. He managed to break into the star’s room, finding Marilyn naked under the sheets and clutching the phone. He then called over her physician Dr Hyman Engelberg, who pronounced her dead and phoned the police.

An autopsy was performed and the corner ruled that Marilyn Monroe’s death was a “probable suicide”.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Allegations of foul play and a cover-up quickly emerged.

Marilyn’s friends and confidants insisted the actress wasn’t depressed at the time of her death. Her agent Pat Newcomb even said she’d seen Marilyn the day prior and that they’d been making future plans. She had even completed negotiations to be re-hired on to Something’s Got to Give.

She was also reportedly in the process of rekindling a romance with ex-husband Joe Dimaggio. It was also noted that she had not left a suicide note.

There were also suggestions that the accounts of the housekeeper, physician and psychiatrist about Marilyn’s last hours were inexplicable and contradictory.

The autopsy results weren’t straightforward either.

THE SUSPECTS

With so much conflicting evidence, well-outlined conspiracy theories developed identifying renowned people and organisations as suspects.

The main conspiracy theories stem back to Marilyn’s relationship with President John F Kennedy and his younger brother, Attorney General Robert F Kennedy.

Marilyn is said to have had affairs with both brothers. However, the main suspicions are around Robert, who may have been complicit in a plot to induce her suicide. The reason? Marilyn threatened to expose their affair.

A related theory suggests it was either the FBI or CIA that carried out the alleged plot to kill Marilyn. Again, this stems back to her being a liability on account of her close relationship with the Kennedys.

The actress reportedly kept notes detailing highly confidential government information in a little red book.

Another theory suggests that

Robert devised a plot encompassing Marilyn’s own trusted staffers, including her psychiatrist Dr Greenson and housekeeper Eunice.

This theory suggests that a depressed Marilyn was provided with the deadly prescription medication by the alleged co-conspirators, and then left to die so that it looked like suicide.

Another sensational theory alleges Marilyn was killed on the orders of Chicago Mafia boss, Sam Giancana.

Marilyn reportedly had a reciprocal business relationship with Sam, but was wanted dead over threats to reveal details about the Mafia’s operations.

In another twist, a separate theory suggests the Kennedys hired the Mob boss to kill the star.

NEW EVIDENCE

Almost 57 years after the legendary screen star’s demise, a new podcast titled The Killing of Marilyn Monroe promises to shed new light on the mystery. The explosive 12-episode podcast will unveil the tangle of sex, power, corruption and lies that led the most powerful men in America to silence Marilyn for good.

Host Jackie Miranne says the series lifts the lid on Marilyn’s secret life juggling affairs with celebrities, politicians and Mob bosses. It will also unleash new details about the events that occurred in her final hours. “Through on-the-ground, investigative reporting, brand new sources, and meticulous reviewing of evidence, we will reveal for the first time exactly what happened on the night of August 4, 1962,” Miranne said. “And why her killer has never been brought to justice.”
