HOLLYWOOD’S SURROGACY TREND

CELEBRITIES ARE ENLISTING HELP TO BECOME PARENTS

-

Surrogate pregnancies are on the rise in Hollywood for a variety of personal and health reasons. The latest celebrity couple to reportedly enlist a surrogate to carry their baby throughout pregnancy are Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, who welcomed their daughter, Raddix, late last year.

A source told Us Weekly that the actress and musician’s decision to use a surrogate followed years of them unsuccessfully trying to naturally fall pregnant.

“They went through so much to get to this point,” the source revealed. “Cameron feels like this baby is truly a miracle.”

Here are some other A-listers that have opted for the surrogacy route to bring a baby into their family.

NICOLE KIDMAN AND KEITH URBAN

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed their first child together in 2008, daughter Sunday Rose, who the actress carried and delivered.

However, when the superstar couple decided to add to their brood, they struggled to conceive and were unsuccessful in their attempt at IVF. They were reportedly then advised by doctors to use a surrogate. Subsequently, in 2010 they welcomed their second daughter, Faith Margaret.

“Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret,” read a statement from the couple.

“No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.”

SARAH JESSICA PARKER AND MATTHEW BRODERICK

After focusing on their highprofile careers, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick became parents later in life.

The Sex and the City star’s first son, James Wilkie, was naturally conceived and born, but the couple struggled to fall pregnant a second time, with the actress admitting to Access Hollywood that they’d “explored a variety of ways of doing so.”

“[Surrogacy] was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us,” she said at the time.

This came to fruition in 2009 when the couple welcomed twins, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge via a surrogate.

KIM KARDASHIAN WEST AND KANYE WEST

Following the birth of her first two children, North and Saint, Kim suffered from placenta accreta, making it dangerous to carry any subsequent children.

As a result, the reality star and the rapper opted to use a surrogate to carry their third and fourth children, Chicago and Psalm.

“We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true,” Kim wrote on her website.

TYRA BANKS

Tyra Banks spent years trying to find her Mister Right so she could finally have a much-longed for family.

In 2016, the former supermodel and her boyfriend at the time, Erik Asla, announced they’d welcomed their first child, son York, born via a surrogate.

Since then, the beauty mogul revealed that her decision to use a surrogate arose over a year of failed IVF attempts.

“As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day,” Tyra told People magazine.
