MY LIFE IN 10 PICTURES LIVINIA NIXON

-

For more than two decades, Livinia Nixon has been a sunny fixture on our screens, with memorable roles on everything from quiz show Temptation to the iconic entertainment program Hey Hey It’s Saturday. Currently appearing regularly on Nine’s ever-popular travel series Getaway, as well as being the weather presenter for the weeknight editions of Nine News Melbourne, Livinia shares her Melbourne home with husband, Alistair Jack, and their sons, Henry, 10, and Ted, 6.

The much-loved star shares her life in 10 pictures.

1

“Here I am on one of my Getaway trips with my producer Rochelle Martin. We’re very similar souls and always have an amazing time together. This was the two of us in front of Mount Fuji in Japan a couple of years ago. We spent nearly three weeks travelling around Japan, eating the most incredible food, meeting amazing people and learning so much about the history of the country.”

2

“It took me about an hour to get into this kimono in Japan, as there are so many layers! It’s really interesting. As soon as you go through this process, you become quite diminutive. You’re somewhat restricted with your movements and it almost changes your persona.”

3

“I was about six months pregnant with Henry when this photo was taken. It was a lovely and very special time in my life as I was on the cusp of parenthood for the first time with Al, which was so exciting, and I was working on an iconic TV show with great and hilarious people. I’m probably lucky that I didn’t go into labour on set after laughing so much!”

4

“I’ve always wanted to write a children’s book. Henry and I go on long adventures together in the car. He’ll throw topics at me and I make stories up, including this one which I decided to turn into a book. Henry’s Pirate Adventure was short-listed on the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards and is now being released in the UK. It’s been really lovely, and Henry is so chuffed.”

5

“This was in Sydney many years ago at a charity golf pro-am with Patrick Rafter. Of course, I was the amateur side of things! Patrick is such a champion on and off the court. Now my son Henry is obsessed with tennis and I am too, so the sport is very special to me. I love that it’s something Henry and I can connect with together.”

6

“Being a weather presenter, I love all the different seasons. Winter can be bleak − hard to imagine now, in the heat of our summer! − but if you can get out and make the most of it, there are always fun aspects to every time of the year.” Livinia presents the weather each weeknight on Nine News in Melbourne and can also be seen on Getaway, Saturdays at 5.30pm on Nine.

7

“Ted was about 6 weeks old when this photo was taken for New Idea. At the time, we were living in Red Hill on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It was such a beautiful period in my life.”

8

“Peter Hitchener or a Guide Dogs Victoria labrador puppy? Honestly! I feel so lucky that I get to work with such a beautiful man like Peter Hitchener. He is so wonderful, caring, funny and concerned about the entire team the whole time. And then you bring in a guide dog puppy – and her name was Livinia!”

9

“This was on a recent trip to India with Getaway. This woman, who weaves baskets every day, seemed so content and at peace with her life. We couldn’t speak a word to each other, as we don’t speak the same language, but we had this lovely connection. Getaway really is a dream job and I love learning the history and the culture of different countries.”

10

“This was when I was working on a show called Things to Try Before You Die [in 2007]. We were meeting our guide at the reception of a nature reserve in South Africa when I looked down to see a cupboard box with six lion cubs in it! Could you think of a more heavenly box to find? It was just amazing! I’ve always been an animal lover and I do believe that we have so much to learn from animals and nature in general.”
