ANGELS IN THE AIR
Sitting in the window seat on a flight from Perth to Broome in January 2013, Maggie had a lot on her mind. Almost at the end of a drawnout divorce settlement, she was headed towards yet another court date. Compounding her stress, her beloved mum had recently passed away, plunging Maggie into deepest grief. Sighing, she glanced outside – and gasped. The plane had flown into the most extraordinary cloud formations she’d seen. Pretty as a child’s drawing, they rippled out as far as Maggie could see. The next thing she saw was impossible, and yet, it happened …
I first interviewed the lovely Maggie, a mother and dental assistant from Tasmania, last year on The Ghost Files podcast.
She related an intriguing story about her former home in Broome being haunted by the wife of Captain Goldie, the master pearler who built the house in 1919. Yet I always knew I wanted to invite her back to tell us about the moment she saw a miracle in the sky. With the world in the grip of a global pandemic, I’m glad we waited until this year to speak again. Maggie’s story is like a little dose of hope and wonder in these fear-filled times.
So, what did Maggie see outside that aircraft window on that unforgettable day? Angels. More than one, ‘playing’ on the tip of the wing.
“I watched them for 42 minutes,” says Maggie. “They knew that I could see them.”
Maggie doesn’t know why she was privileged with such an astonishing sight, but she’s eternally grateful. “I think it was a sign to let me know everything was going to be OK.”
