IT’S FRIENDS SEX & THE CITY 3.0!

WHICH TV REBOOT WILL REIGN SUPREME?

-

Back in their smallscreen heydays, Friends and Sex and the City fought each other for ratings, while Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker’s fandom battled over who was the most-loved TV heroine.

Now after some false starts, it appears the iconic noughties shows are finally gearing up for a rematch.

New Idea has learnt that a third SATC movie is finally back on the table with the news that the years-long feud between SJP and Kim Cattrall has finally been resolved. An insider tells New Idea: “Time’s been a great healer and the girls have put their bad feelings aside.”

Tensions really erupted two years ago when Sarah Jessica – who played Carrie Bradshaw on the hit show – attempted to express her condolences following the death of Kim’s brother.

She wrote on Twitter, “Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx.”

But Kim, who found fame depicting glamorous New York maneater Samantha Jones, snapped back: “You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

It was revealed the pair’s war of words followed years of long-standing rumours that SJP and Kim didn’t get along, with other cast members hinting that Kim was “toxic” and that her money demands had been behind the constant back and forth over whether or not a third movie was ever going to be made.

Tension escalated in 2017 when Kim gave an interview saying that SJP “could have been nicer” and that they were

“HOW CAN YOU FILM A WHOLE SEQUEL WHEN TWO OF THE MAIN STARS HATE EACH OTHER?”

“never friends” while working on the iconic show.

Now, however, sources say the two co-stars have quietly patched up their differences – paving the way for a third big-screen revival of the much-loved rom-com.

“They weren’t pressured or put up to this by anyone else, it was done very privately and discreetly. But they’re both happy to be moving on and saying only positive things about each other, for the first time in years,” says the source.

SJP has been very open about hoping a third SATC movie would eventually get made – the first two movies were made in 2008 and 2010. Last September she talked about how she wanted to revisit the show’s characters saying, “I’d like to see where all of them are. I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie.”

The exclusive insider added, “There’s no doubt whatsoever that Kim and Sarah’s feud was what put a halt to the reunion taking place.

“It was the elephant in the room, because everyone wanted to make it happen but how can you film a whole sequel alongside two of the main stars who hate each other?

“But now they’ve made peace and there’s nothing to get in their way, so it will be top of the agenda once Hollywood gets back to work.”

It’s now likely to be a race to see which iconic show sees their reboot made first.

The much-publicised Friends reunion special was put on hold when the global pandemic shut down production. Since then, the show’s future has been under question because of ongoing concern about Matthew Perry’s health.

The actor, who has battled serious addiction for years, was recently photographed for the first time in six months, looking dishevelled and scruffy amid reports he’d split from longterm girlfriend Molly Hurwitz. It’s been claimed Jennifer Aniston, in particular, is concerned that Matthew could be spiralling again.

Life & Style magazine reports the actress has reached out to him “encouraging him to take care of himself and keep on top of his health”.
