THE WEAKEST LINK IS BACK!
WHO WILL BE THE STRONGEST HOST?
TV’S BIGGEST NAMES ARE GUNNING FOR THE GIG
From Australian Idol to Packed to the Rafters, it seems every beloved show under the sun is being rebooted these days – and now New Idea can confirm that gameshow favourite, The Weakest Link, is the latest program making a comeback.
A TV insider says Nine is relaunching the series and is currently undergoing a casting call for contestants using a fake name, ‘Quizical’.
Based on the UK format, The Weakest Link was originally launched 20 years ago on Channel Seven and was hosted by the late actress, Cornelia Frances. While our source admits it will be difficult to find a replacement for Cornelia, who died at age
77 in 2018, a short list reveals there’s plenty of competition for the coveted role.
“Right now, the frontrunner is Gretel Killeen, who has a wealth of hosting experience from her
Big Brother days,” reveals the insider.
Then there’s Pamela Rabe, who stars as Joan ‘The Freak’ Ferguson in Foxtel’s Wentworth.
“She could bring Cornelia’s famous sternness to the show,” the insider adds.
Doctor Doctor star Tina Bursill and Aussie acting icon Sigrid Thornton are also both said to be contenders.
A more interesting name which isn’t being ruled out, is politician Pauline Hanson!
“She has huge ties with Nine and is always wheeled out on their news programs when they need publicity,” quips the source, who insists she would “certainly bring the headlines and the buzz”.
