TV PRESENTER ERNIE DINGO SHARES HIS AUSSIE TRAVEL FAVOURITES

-

He’s seen the world – and then some! Now, everyone’s favourite on-screen traveller, Ernie Dingo, is embarking on new adventures around Australia for his show, Going Places with Ernie Dingo.

We sat down with the TV veteran to talk about his most memorable trips, his top travel advice and, of course, what’s to come on his new, captivating series as he explores Australia’s mustsee destinations.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAVEL DESTINATION YOU’VE BEEN TO IN OZ?

That’s a very hard question. The reason that it’s a hard question to answer, is because I would say the Murchison (Western Australia) where I come from, because to me that’s going home, going to places that I already know and it feels safe to me. [However], I do love listening to other people when they go to different parts of Australia.

ANY OTHER STAND-OUT SPOTS YOU RECOMMEND WE VISIT?

You’ve got to see the Great Barrier Reef, and where the sand comes out of the Hawkesbury River, where it has been coming out for thousands of years – [that’s] how Fraser Island was formed. I think going places and observing what nature can do is the biggest stand out. Kakadu is another great example.

WHERE WAS YOUR FAVOURITE LOCATION TO FILM FOR YOUR NEW TV SHOW, GOING PLACES?

Some have been very, very special. Horizontal Falls, near Broome [was one]. Going out there with Mad Troy (tourism company founder Troy Thomas), who we lost [in July 2020]. The places I go to are really made special by the people I meet. Reminiscing on a lot of episodes, it’s hard to choose just one.

IS THERE ANYWHERE ON YOUR AUSSIE TRAVEL WISH LIST YOU HAVEN’T BEEN YET?

I’m not really sure, I love revisiting places and I love travelling around for the journey of it all, as opposed to the destination.
