Sitting by and watching his wife get to do what she loved was “incredibly hard on Keith, because it drives him crazy not being able to get out there on stage,” shares a source of the singer, who’s set to appear as a coach on Channel Seven’s new season of The Voice later in the year. “Nicole hates seeing him in the dumps.”
For now, Nicole is staying in Australia as she wants to remain close to her mother, Janelle. In February, Nicole shared that Janelle, who celebrated her 81st birthday last week, has some “massive health issues” going on.
However, given she and Keith have a pact to never spend more than three days apart, Nicole may end up joining him if the separation anxiety, and the thought of Keith needing to isolate on his return, gets too much.
“She understands why he’s going, but wishes he didn’t have to,” says the source. “She doesn’t like to be without him. Plus, it was just announced all American adults will be vaccinated by the end of May. With Australia still dragging its heels, she wouldn’t mind fast-tracking that!”
They’ve always had a tight bond, however Nicole and her sister Antonia, 50, aren’t seeing eye to eye on one particular issue.
New Idea hears that Antonia’s eldest child, Lucia Hawley, is eager to follow in Nicole’s acting footsteps – but the star is having reservations.
“Antonia thinks having Nicole by Lucia’s side would make things easier. They have tried it by having Lucia shadow Nic while she’s been working in Australia, but Nicole still has her doubts,” says a source. “It’s a soul-destroying life and not many get through it with their mental health intact. Nicole is just being her usual, cautious self.”
Nicole has remained honest about the affects her challenging life as an actress has had on her over the years. Following her role in The Undoing, she confessed to being “disturbed” by it, admitting: “I go home and I don’t sleep well, and I’m not well.”
