Home theatre HIDEAWAY

There are two steps to setting up the ultimate home cinema experience, says Joshua Corin, product specialist at Bose. “Most people will firstly focus on the visual experience. Once that is ticked off, the next best thing is audio,” he says.

“It plays a big role in re-creating the cinema feeling.”

Gone are the days of massive speakers flanking your plasma TV – instead, a slim soundbar speaker is the future of creating a home cinema. Not only is their sleek appearance a major drawcard, they are often incredibly easy to install and offer unparalleled sound quality.

“Soundbars are essential to creating a natural, airy spaciousness to the audio and achieve surround sound,” explains Joshua.

His advice when looking to buy? Choose a soundbar with a centre-tweeter. That’s the audio driver in a speaker that directs high-frequency sounds, like a character’s dialogue amid explosion sounds, directly at where you’re seated.

While the centre-tweeter soundbar is guaranteed to improve your TV audio, Joshua believes adding a subwoofer is the difference between a good and great home cinema experience.

“It’s the difference between hearing lightning and feeling thunder!” he says.

If you want your home theatre to be the envy of your friends, look for products with voice control options. Using this feature, you can set up routines.

“When you say, ‘Hey, Google. It’s movie time!’ you can automatically turn on your TV, adjust the volume, dim smart lights, and have a plug turn on a popcorn machine,” says Joshua. “Just make sure to fill it with corn kernels first!”
