5 MINUTES WITH Tanya Hennessey
Having become an inspiration for young girls, comedian Tanya Hennessey has penned a children’s book, Drum Roll Please… It’s Stevie Louise, to help build confidence in kids. Here, she talks about the cute tale…
Inspiration for my new book came from…
wanting to give something relatable to my younger audience. I wanted to offer something different: a fiercely female lead that wasn’t about having a crush on someone. It’s about finding yourself – finding confidence and resilience.
What I love about Stevie Louise is…
she’s fierce, funny, human and she’s real. She’s simultaneously flawed and amazing, and that’s necessary for kids to see.
I love writing children’s literature because…
kids are the best! I’m obsessed – you have the opportunity to throw in life lessons in your child self would’ve needed.
When I have writer’s block I…
watch, read or listen to something inspiring, or I just go to a shopping centre. I’ve got so much inspo from a food court or a line at Boost Juice.
My favourite spot to read is…
on my bed or on holidays, on a day bed while day drinking.
Fans would be surprised to learn that…
I love true crime and history, and I want to go back to uni to study law.
The advice I’d give my teenage self is…
don’t be anyone else, and don’t try to please everyone.
The reality show I’d love to star on is…
Dancing with the Stars – but more likely Hoarders!
