They’re going to the snow-covered chapel of love! Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s rebooted relationship is moving full steam ahead. The couple, famously dubbed ‘Bennifer’ during their original early-noughties engagement, enjoyed a very romantic getaway to Montana over the recent Mother’s Day weekend. Ben reportedly owns a luxury ski chalet at the exclusive Yellowstone Club in Big Sky and sources say he and J.LO, 51, acted very much like a couple during their stay. As reported by New Idea, friends are convinced a wedding is imminent. Now, one pal tells New Idea that Ben, 48, might have used the Montana trip as an opportunity to get down on bended knee again! “Things got so deep and meaningful … Ben said he doesn’t want to lose her now he’s had this second chance with her and he’s planning on proving that this time – it’s forever,” dishes the source. “It was so romantic. They had a little snow and some starry nights. Ben cooked an incredible steak dinner for her from scratch, and they spent hours in the hot tub catching up on times gone by and making plans for the future.” Ben certainly knows a thing or two about grand romantic gestures. When the actor proposed to J.LO in November 2002 at his mother’s home in Boston, he surprised the star by blanketing the entire house in “a quilt of rose petals”, as she put it. “So many candles and vases and bouquets,” J.LO shared in an interview shortly after. “And my song ‘Glad’ was playing. I walk in and I was overwhelmed. I wasn’t expecting it and I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’” As J.LO sobbed, Ben read out a letter he’d written, listing all the ways he loved her and wanted to marry her. When he finished, he held out a stunning 6.1-carat Harry Winston pink diamond ring and asked J.LO to be his wife. “I had cried a lot over sadness over the years. And for the first time in my life, I cried incredible purging tears of happiness,” J.LO said. “It was the most cleansing feeling and the most wonderful feeling I had ever had … I was like, ‘Oh! Yeah! Yeah! Yes! Yes!’”
Sadly, the couple called off their engagement in September 2003, just a few days before they were meant to get hitched. They cited
“excessive media attention” around the big day as the reason for the postponement. Yet, they eventually pulled the plug on their relationship four months later.
Sources say Ben was the one who instigated this new reconciliation. In February, fresh from his split from Ana de Armas, he began sending J.LO flirty emails as she filmed her new movie, Shotgun Wedding, in the Dominican Republic. At the time, she was going through a rough patch with her then-fiancé, Alex Rodriguez.
The couple went on to confirm their break-up in April.
Ben reportedly emailed J.LO saying she looked beautiful and told her how much he wished he could be there with her. The messages have been described as “loving and longing”, with Ben writing in one he could “‘own her heart’ with his pen”.
“Ben has always had an affinity for her,” a source tells Entertainment Tonight. “He wanted to explore things with her beyond a friendship and they’ve both really been enjoying spending time together.”
