5 Hacks FOR MANAGING YOUR HOUSEHOLD

MAKE RUNNING YOUR HOME SIMPLE WITH THESE SANITY-SAVING STRATEGIES

-

Staying on top of an organised house and family can sometimes feel impossible. If you’re struggling with the juggle, life assistant Caroline Brunne can help get you back on track.

1. MAKE A PLAN

It may be a household calendar shared with everyone or a chart on the fridge. Regardless of how you plan the weeks ahead, writing things down and being clear on who is doing what can reduce stress when things get busy.

2. COMMUNICATE

We’ve all had moments where we wished someone would give us a hand, but without communicating these issues, [people] never really know what is going on. Save yourself passive aggressive comments and resentful huffing by simply asking when you need help.

3. PREP MEALS AHEAD

I really dislike the “what’s for dinner?” conversation. By the time 5pm rolls around, it’s not the best time to be deciding. So, I choose to meal plan on Saturday morning when there’s more time and headspace to reduce decision fatigue throughout the week.

4. FORGET GENDER STEREOTYPES

In our house, we play to our personal skills and have everyone chip in, ensuring all household members take on tasks. We’re mindful of everyone’s schedule, skills and capabilities. I don’t expect my 9-year-old to make a threecourse dinner, but I know he can set the table, clean up after dinner and help with chores.

5. BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Life is complicated at the best of times. The key is to remember to be kind to yourself. If the washing doesn’t get done or you have to order takeaway, go with it. Tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity to have things run smoothly again.
