Michael J. Fox made a welcome return to the spotlight at the A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s gala in New York on October 23. At the event, the Back to the Future star shared new details about his battle with Parkinson’s disease, namely why he went public with his diagnosis in 1998. “The paparazzi ... they would stand outside my apartment and heckle at me, like, ‘What’s the matter with you?’” Michael said. “I said, ‘I can’t be making my neighbours deal with this,’ so I came out, and it was great ... It was a great surprise to me that people responded the way they [did]. They responded with interest, in the desire to find an answer to the disease.”
