DEATH OF A STAR

-

Famed record producer Phil Spector built a legendary career in the music world, but his legacy was eclipsed after he was convicted for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. The late musician, who died in January 2021, was found guilty of killing the American actress, 40, in 2009 and was sentenced to life behind bars.

Spector’s ‘Wall of Sound’ recordings changed the landscape of pop music in the 1960s and he had a net worth of more than $69 million, which was accrued from royalties even while he was languishing in prison. Lana, who starred in Scarface and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, was found slumped over a chair at Spector’s California mansion with a gunshot wound through the roof of her mouth. On the night Lana was killed, she and Spector were last seen together at the House of Blues in Hollywood.

Five women testified that Spector had threatened them with firearms. Prosecutor Truc Do described Spector as “a very dangerous man” who “had a history of playing Russian roulette with women”.
