‘I’M STILL WAITING FOR THE CALL’

WITH A REBOOT SERIES UPON US, THE ACTOR HAS BIG IDEAS FOR HIS RETURN

-

He made a name for himself playing Italian-australian schoolboy Con Bordino on Heartbreak High 27 years ago and remains a fan favourite, but Sal Coco is yet to even get a call-up to be a part of Netflix’s reboot of the iconic series.

“I just hope that I get the phone call,” Sal, 46, admits to New Idea exclusively.

“I’d like to be a part of it, 100 per cent. It would be great to be part of the whole series again. It would be great to come back and it would make the fans happy.

“Con was one of those characters who related to everybody. He was loveable.”

(it was the ’90s!) and hoop earrings, Con Bordino became one of the most popular characters among the original cast, which also included thenunknown actors Alex Dimitriades, Abi Tucker, Lara Cox, Callan Mulvey and Ada Nicodemou.

Netflix’s new eight-part series is set to premiere in 2022 with a new cast of relatively unknown actors, including Ayesha Madon, James Majoos and Asher Yasbincek among the new students at fictitious Hartley High.

“I still get Heartbreak High fans recognising me,” grins Sal.

“Wouldn’t it be fun if he came back as a school principal? Imagine Con Bordino coming back as a school teacher! What would he teach? How to be a shonkster? I just hope the old school fans get to re-live the experience.”

In the meantime, Con is returning to Home and Away next year as Dimitri Poulos.

He’ll be reuniting with his Heartbreak classmates Ada and Danny Raco, who play Dimitri’s Summer Bay siblings.
