GARDEN SECRETS
CREATE A BORDER OF LOW-WATERNEEDING PLANTS THAT OOZE COLOUR
1 DROUGHT BUSTERS
Don’t reject vibrant borders just because water is short. Replace thirsty species with masses of Mediterranean, Australian and South African flowering plants.
2 HIGH IN THE DRY
Look to achilleas, coneflowers, everlasting daisies, Pride of Madeiras (Echiums sp), gaillardias, penstemons, pokers and sedums in their many forms and colours.
3 ON THE WIND
For variety, use Aussie ornamental grasses such as common tussock grass (Poa labillardierei), spiny-head mat-rush (Lomandra longifolia) and one of the dianellas.
