SNAILS AND SLUGS
AFFECTS: Leaves of most plants, but especially seedlings, young citrus and hostas. They come out at night or when it’s raining.
PREVENTION: Hand-pick and flick in the bin. Eliminate hiding spots, such as empty pots, wood piles or tall weeds along fences – check out all shady spots, as they dislike sunlight.
TREATMENT: Scatter the soil of potential feast areas with crushed eggshells, fine gravel, coffee grounds, wood shavings or sawdust – their rough edges make it difficult for them to crawl over. Lime or wood ash also deter them.
