Nicole Kidman is being showered with awards for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos – but a fellow Aussie is seemingly raining on her parade!

Sources exclusively reveal to New Idea the “super competitive” nature of Nicole’s friendship with Cate Blanchett is once again flaring up.

In a recent interview, Cate, 52 – who is also in awards contention for her new movie, Nightmare Alley – decidedly reminded the world she was, in fact, director Aaron Sorkin’s first choice to play Lucille. Even Lucille’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, has said she was “devastated” when Cate dropped out.

Cate’s comments are said to have rattled Nicole, 54, and has made her question her acting abilities.

“Everyone’s imagining how Cate would have handled the role, and that will always play into Nicole’s insecurities about her skills,” says a source.
